Switzerland in 14 days: three ways to do it

Our designers’ take

Two weeks lets you do what a week cannot: three nights in each mountain base, every scenic train, and a finish on the Italian lakes if you want warmth after altitude. We run two published itineraries at this length and build variations on request, with a priced proposal in 48 hours.

  1. 1

Switzerland only, 12 days by train

3 nights in Montreux (Lavaux vineyards, Glacier 3000's Peak Walk, Chillon Castle, the Chocolate Train to Gruyères and the Cailler factory), 4 nights in Grindelwald (Männlichen hike, Jungfraujoch via the Eiger Express, Lauterbrunnen's 72 waterfalls by e-bike, Lake Thun and the Beatus caves), 2 nights in Zermatt (village walk, the Gornergrat), the Glacier Express to St. Moritz for 1 night, 1 night in Zurich. That is Switzerland by Train in 12 Days, from 3,499 € per person; we add two nights in Lucerne or Lugano to make it a full fortnight.

  2. 2

    Switzerland to Italy, 14 days

2 nights in Zurich (Lindt Home of Chocolate, the Rhine Falls), 3 nights in Interlaken (kayak on Lake Brienz, the Schilthorn, a via ferrata above Mürren, paragliding from First), 2 nights in Lucerne (night watchman walk, Mount Rigi and a lake boat), 2 nights in Lugano (an organic winery, the Olive Road to Gandria), 2 nights on Lake Como by private water taxi, 1 night on Lake Maggiore for the Borromean Islands, 2 nights in Milan with the Last Supper and a pizza class. See Switzerland to Italy by Train in 14 Days, from 5,499 € per person.

  3. 3

    Alps and Alsace

the 10-day Swiss circle plus Basel, Colmar and Strasbourg, borrowing the Alsace days of our three-country itinerary.

With less time, 10 days still covers the mountains and Ticino. For three-week trips across several countries, see Europe in 21 days.

Frequently asked questions

Is two weeks in Switzerland worth it, or should I add Italy?

Both are good answers. Pure Switzerland gives you the 12-day scenic train route with four nights in the Jungfrau region and the Glacier Express. Adding Italy trades two Alpine nights for Lake Como, Maggiore and Milan, warmer evenings and lower prices. Active travelers usually pick the Italy version; train lovers pick the 12-day.

How many bases for 14 days?

Six or seven, with at least two nights in each and three or four in the Jungfrau region. The Glacier Express night in St. Moritz or Chur is the only one-night stop we accept, because the train itself is the day. Luggage forwarding between hotels keeps the changes painless.

What does a two-week Switzerland trip cost?

From 3,499 € per person for 12 days with 3* hotels and the Swiss Travel Pass, about 4,200 € with 4* upgrades in Zermatt and St. Moritz. The 14-day Switzerland and Italy trip with kayaking, via ferrata, paragliding and private boats is 5,499 € per person. Meals outside the program and flights are extra.

What is the best season for a two-week Alps trip?

Late June to mid-September. Everything is open, the Chocolate Train runs, the adventure activities operate and the lakes are swimmable. First half of September is ideal for both halves of a Switzerland and Italy route. For a winter fortnight we switch to a ski-and-train version with Zermatt, Grindelwald and St. Moritz.

Two minutes, three steps. Free and without obligation.
