Our designers’ take

01

Valentine grew up between the French and Swiss Alps and designs most of the trips on this page. The Alps are a single range that three countries share, and the lakes at their feet, Lucerne, Geneva, Annecy, Como, Maggiore, Lugano, are where you sleep and swim between mountain days. The best itineraries alternate altitude and water: a summit in the morning, a boat or a terrace in the afternoon.

Switzerland is the center. Switzerland in 7 Days pairs Mount Pilatus and Lake Lucerne, Grindelwald with Jungfraujoch or a kayak on Lake Brienz, Zermatt with a Matterhorn sunset from Sunnegga and the Gornergrat, and Montreux with Lavaux above Lake Geneva, from 1,999 € per person. Legendary Swiss Trains reaches the same peaks by the GoldenPass, Glacier Express and Bernina lines and ends with a boat across Lake Lucerne. Switzerland by Train in 12 Days adds the Peak Walk on Glacier 3000, the Männlichen panorama hike, Lauterbrunnen's 72 waterfalls, Lake Thun and the Beatus caves. Switzerland to Italy in 14 Days crosses from the Schilthorn and Mount Rigi to Lugano, Lake Como and the Borromean Islands.

Lavaux

On the French side, Chamonix Adventure Week is a one-hotel stay under Mont Blanc with rafting on the Arve, a climbing day, the Aiguille du Midi cable car to 3,842 m, a via ferrata and a private cruise on Lake Annecy, from 1,299 € per person. In winter, French Christmas in 7 Days finishes with three nights and two full ski days in Val d'Isère after the Alsace markets and Lyon. Our 14-day France honeymoon includes a helicopter flight over the Mont Blanc massif and a night at Auberge du Père Bise on Lake Annecy.

Seasons: mid-June to mid-September for hiking, boats and adventure activities; September for stable weather and the Lavaux harvest; December to March for skiing in Zermatt, Grindelwald, Val d'Isère and Chamonix, with the Glacier Express under snow. Mountain hotels close for maintenance in November and late April. See Switzerland, France and Italy for details, and expect a priced proposal with trains, cable cars and hotels within 48 hours.

A wonderful travel partner

Caroline our specialist was always knowledgeable, available, helpful and kind. I was unable to make the trip because my cat became quite ill a couple of days before our departure. Caroline helped my husband have an enjoyable trip on his own and we appreciate her. I learned a lot even though I couldn’t travel. I can now use What’s App and Google Translate and Instagram. Thank you Caroline!

Barcelona to Nice along the Mediterranean

We had a wonderful time making the journey along the Mediterranean coast. We had a wonderful time making the journey along the Mediterranean coast. Starting in Barcelona we were able to visit the newly opened Sagrada de Familia with a wonderful guide - one of the highlights our trip. We had an early entry so the crowds were easily managed and we were able to enjoy both inside and out. The next day we had another great guide who showed us the Jewish history and historical presence in Barcelona. After Barcelona, we went to Girona, which was a wonderful surprise. We stayed at a lovely hotel in the old town that was a converted palace. Our tour here of the old town focusing on Jewish history was incredible. The next day we had an all day small group tour of Dali's house and museum - both well worth the travel including the incredible views along the Costa Brava. Travelling by car along the southern coast of France was relatively easily finding great things to see - Pone du Gard, Baux de Provence town and castle, St. Paul de Vence and finally Nice. An electric bike ride in Nice was also wonderful.

Mount Pilatus, Lake Brienz and Grindelwald

The trip was wonderful. Emilie did a great job in booking our hotels and tours! She explained the train system and how to use the Swiss Rail Pass. The trip was wonderful. Emilie did a great job in booking our hotels and tours! She explained the train system and how to use the Swiss Rail Pass. The hotels for the most part were in great locations, close to the train stations, restaurants and sites to see. The trips she planned to Mount Pilatus and Gornergrat were filled with beautiful scenery of the Alps! Our Kayak tour on Lake Brienz with Hightide Kayaks and Ben, our guide was great. It couldn’t have been more peaceful and serene and Ben got some great photos for us. Our E-bike tour through Grindelwald was filled with amazing views of waterfalls and quaint towns. Marceau, our guide was informative and provided us with hi-lites of the area, photos and a perfect picnic lunch. We did have one glitch, with The Galcier Express running almost three hours longer than scheduled. We heard rumors that there was a train issue with another Glacier Express train. By the time we got to one of the more scenic areas, it was too dark to see any sites. Checking into our hotel at around 9 pm and leaving before 9 am the next morning seemed like such a loss of time. Granted this is no fault on Mobee International’s part, it was just a matter of unforseen circumstances. We only caught a glimpse of St Moritz on the bus ride back to the train station. Emile is aware and has started a process for a refund of some sort. Overall I would highly recommend Emilie and the Mobee International team to friends that seek assistance with travel plans. This is our second trip Mobee International assisted us with travel plans.

Frequently asked questions

Zermatt or Chamonix: which should I choose?

Zermatt for a car-free village, the Matterhorn, the Gornergrat railway and the Glacier Express connection; it suits train trips and couples. Chamonix for adventure (rafting, climbing, via ferrata), easier access from Geneva (1 hour), lower prices and Lake Annecy nearby; it suits families and active travelers. Both in one trip is possible via Martigny.

Can I see the Matterhorn and Jungfraujoch in the same week?

Yes. Zermatt and Grindelwald are 2 h 15 apart by train, and our 7-day itinerary gives two nights in each. Go up Jungfraujoch or the Gornergrat early in the morning, when the sky is most often clear, and keep a free half day as a weather reserve. We advise on which day looks best once you are there.

Which lake is best for swimming and boats?

Lake Annecy is the cleanest and warmest in the Alps, swimmable June to September. Lake Lucerne has the best boat network and mountain railways on its shores. Lake Como and Maggiore have villas, islands and private boats. Lake Brienz is turquoise and cold, ideal for kayaking rather than swimming.

Are these trips suitable for people who do not hike?

Completely. Every summit on our itineraries is reached by train, cable car or cogwheel railway: the Gornergrat, Jungfraujoch, Pilatus, Rigi, the Schilthorn and the Aiguille du Midi. Hikes are optional and we include gentle ones (Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg is a 90-minute walk, mostly flat). Lake boats and terraces fill the rest.

What is the best time for a mountains and lakes trip?

Late June to mid-September for everything open, with the first half of September our favorite for weather, warm lakes and fewer people. For skiing, late January to early March. Avoid November and late April to mid-May, when many mountain hotels and lifts close between seasons.
