Accessible travel, the way we design them

Paris, Accessible Paris in 7 Days: Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Versailles & More

Our designers’ take

01

Accessible travel is part of how Mobee International started, and we still design it the same way: every hotel, vehicle, boat and museum checked by us before it goes in your itinerary, not copied from a brochure. Caroline, our accessible travel designer, asks the questions a booking site cannot: door widths, roll-in showers, bed height, whether the elevator fits a power chair, where the Louvre's accessible entrance actually is.

Nice, Accessible French Riviera in 8 Days: Nice, Monaco, Eze & Grasse
02

Our two published accessible itineraries are in France. Accessible Paris in 7 Days uses an accessible executive room at the Hotel Westminster 4* between the Opéra and Place Vendôme, adapted-vehicle transfers for every outing, a fully accessible Seine cruise, the second floor of the Eiffel Tower, a panoramic bus tour, the Moulin Rouge dinner show, the Louvre and Versailles with priority entry, and the Sainte-Chapelle, which is fully accessible. From 1,699 € per person. Accessible French Riviera in 8 Days is based at the Hotel West End 4* on the Promenade des Anglais, with an accessible coastal cruise from Villefranche-sur-Mer to Monaco, a private perfume workshop at Galimard in Grasse, the Matisse Museum, Monaco and Eze by adapted vehicle, and a day at Centenaire beach, which has ramps, accessible restrooms and beach wheelchairs. From 1,499 € per person.

03

Beyond these, we adapt our other routes: Switzerland by train with boarding assistance and accessible panoramic cars, the Italian lakes with step-free boats, German Christmas markets with hotels on the market squares. Some mountain railways and medieval towns have limits, and we tell you which days need an alternative rather than promising what we cannot deliver. We also design trips for travelers with reduced mobility who do not use a wheelchair, and for groups where one member needs an accessible room and the rest do not.

04

Travel companions, medical equipment rental (hoists, shower chairs, mobility scooters), oxygen and dialysis arrangements can be organized in France and Switzerland. Tell us about your needs in the first message; Caroline will call or write within 48 hours with a proposal that states, hotel by hotel, what has been verified. See the France guide or how it works.

Barcelona to Nice along the Mediterranean

We had a wonderful time making the journey along the Mediterranean coast. Starting in Barcelona we were able to visit the newly opened Sagrada de Familia with a wonderful guide - one of the highlights our trip. We had a wonderful time making the journey along the Mediterranean coast. Starting in Barcelona we were able to visit the newly opened Sagrada de Familia with a wonderful guide - one of the highlights our trip. We had an early entry so the crowds were easily managed and we were able to enjoy both inside and out. The next day we had another great guide who showed us the Jewish history and historical presence in Barcelona. After Barcelona, we went to Girona, which was a wonderful surprise. We stayed at a lovely hotel in the old town that was a converted palace. Our tour here of the old town focusing on Jewish history was incredible. The next day we had an all day small group tour of Dali's house and museum - both well worth the travel including the incredible views along the Costa Brava. Travelling by car along the southern coast of France was relatively easily finding great things to see - Pone du Gard, Baux de Provence town and castle, St. Paul de Vence and finally Nice. An electric bike ride in Nice was also wonderful.

A very good overall experience

My overall experience with Mobee International was very good. My specialist was Emilie and she made all my wishes to happen within my budget. All the services that she booked for my family and I worked out smoothly, and the communication was good. The only problem was one of the hotels that she booked, it was a bad one called Kaliope in Lavandou. It was clear to me that she didn’t have any better understanding of that place than I had looking at their website. They should have a better way to get someone local to visit the places before booking it to their clients. Luckily it was just a brief part of a much bigger trip.

Family of four, London to Paris

Did 8 day London to Paris trip with family of 4. Agency had arranged pick up from airport to hotel, which was nice that I did not have to worry about taxis scams. Hotels chosen were the Cumberland in London and Paris art hotel in Paris. Both were in the busy parts of town, which was what we asked for. Our activities were tailored to what we wanted. Hotels chosen were the Cumberland in London and Paris art hotel in Paris. Both were in the busy parts of town, which was what we asked for. Our activities were tailored to what we wanted. We did Tea bus tour, London eye, Tower London, Webmeister Abby and Madame Tussauds wax museum. It was nice to not to worry about getting ticket, making sure they are not sold out, how to buy, etc, as this was all taken care of for us. Eurostar train to Paris was great and highly recommend, easier than plane. In Paris we did Disneyland, Eiffel Tower, Cruise on Seine river, Louvre, and Notre dame. Had Sebastian as a tour guide for family friendly guided tour of Louvre was great, highly recommended if bringing young children. Again, didn't stress over tickets or times as Caroline, our travel agent, took care of this for us.

Frequently asked questions

Which European cities are most wheelchair accessible?

Paris has made large progress: the Louvre, Versailles, Sainte-Chapelle, Seine boats and the Eiffel Tower's second floor are accessible, and adapted taxis exist. Nice has a flat promenade, an accessible beach and adapted buses. Zurich, Lucerne and Berlin are strong on public transport. Medieval hill towns and cobbled old centers are the hard cases, and we plan around them.

Are your accessible hotels really accessible?

We verify each one: door widths, roll-in shower or tub with bench, grab bars, bed height, turning space, elevator dimensions and a step-free route from the street. The Westminster in Paris and the West End in Nice are checked regularly. If a hotel's accessible room is taken, we tell you and propose a verified alternative, not a standard room.

How do airport transfers and day trips work?

Every transfer uses an adapted vehicle with a ramp or lift, booked for your chair's dimensions. Day trips are private, so the vehicle waits while you visit. For Paris and Nice this means no public transport unless you want it. Flight assistance at the airport is booked with the airline on request.

Can you adapt an itinerary that is not labeled accessible?

Usually, yes. The Swiss train trips, the Italian lakes and the German Christmas markets all have accessible versions with some days changed. Mountain cable cars vary: Gornergrat and the Jungfrau railway are largely accessible, some smaller cogwheel lines are not. Caroline reviews the route and tells you exactly what changes.

What does an accessible trip cost compared with a standard one?

A little more, because adapted vehicles and private days replace public transport and group tours. Our accessible Paris week is 1,699 € per person and the Riviera week 1,499 €, both with accessible 4* hotels and adapted transfers throughout. Equipment rental and care assistance are quoted separately. Flights are not included.
