France in 10 days: three ways to do it

Our designers’ take

Ten days is where France opens up. You keep three nights in Paris and still have a week for two regions linked by TGV, with no day spent only in transit. We do not currently publish a fixed 10-day package; every 10-day France trip we run is built from the routes below by a travel designer based near Lyon or in Nice, priced within 48 hours.

  1. 1

    Paris, Burgundy and Provence

3 nights in Paris, TGV to Dijon or Beaune (1 h 35) for 2 nights on the Route des Grands Crus, train on to Avignon (about 2 h 30 with one change) for 4 nights in a village base for the Luberon, Arles and the Pont du Gard, fly home from Marseille. The Burgundy and Provence days of our 14-day honeymoon itinerary show the experiences we use: a winemaker lunch in the Côte de Beaune, a 2CV day in the Luberon, the Camargue by 4x4.

  2. 2

    Paris, Lyon and the Riviera

3 nights in Paris, TGV to Lyon in 2 hours for 2 nights (Old Lyon traboules, a Bocuse dinner, Beaujolais vineyards near our office), then 4 h 40 by train to Nice for 4 nights with Eze, Monaco and a day on the Saint-Tropez side. Our Riviera week and Lyon Christmas itinerary supply the building blocks.

  3. 3

Normandy, the Loire and Paris with children

extend our 7-day family trip with a third Loire night and two more Paris nights, which adds the Bayeux market, a boat on the Cher and a second Disneyland day.

Go to 14 days if you want the Alps between Burgundy and Provence, or Paris plus three regions. Drop to 7 days if Paris is not on your list this time. See the France planning guide for seasons and transport.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best 10-day France itinerary for a first visit?

Paris (3 nights), Burgundy or Lyon (2 nights), Provence or the Riviera (4 nights), flying home from Marseille or Nice. It uses the TGV for both long hops, gives you city, wine country and the south, and never asks for a one-night stay. We adapt the regions to your interests.

Can I see Paris, the Loire, Provence and the Riviera in 10 days?

You can, but each region would get two nights and you would spend four days in transit. We recommend three of the four. Loire plus Provence makes a good pair by TGV via Paris; Provence plus the Riviera are neighbors (Aix to Nice is 2 h 30 by car or train).

Do I need a car for 10 days in France?

A car for the Provence or Loire portion only, picked up at the regional TGV station and dropped at the airport. Paris, Lyon and Nice are better without one. Many clients prefer a private driver for the three or four days in Provence so wine tastings and village lunches are stress-free.

How much does a 10-day France trip cost?

Roughly 2,500 to 4,000 € per person with 4* boutique hotels, first-class TGV, private transfers, three or four guided days and breakfast, excluding flights. A 5* version with private chefs and helicopter time, like our 14-day honeymoon, runs much higher. Your 48-hour proposal shows the exact figure.
