For most couples, the best anniversary trip to Europe is 10 to 14 days in two or three places that match how you like to spend time together: cities and long dinners, mountains and trains, the sea, or wine country. Choose one moment worth the whole trip (a dinner, a view, a ceremony), build the rest at an easy pace, and stay at least three nights in each place. Our ready-made trips that suit an anniversary start from €1,899 (about $2,200) per person for a week on the French Riviera.

An anniversary is not a honeymoon. Many of the couples we plan for have already been to Paris, travel with more luggage and less appetite for 7 a.m. departures, and sometimes celebrate with their grown children. Our France honeymoon itineraries work well for a first or second anniversary; this guide is for the 10th, the 25th, the 40th or the 50th.

Anniversary trip ideas at a glance

Style Where we send couples Nights Best months Our closest trip, from per person
Romantic cities Paris with Champagne or Lyon 6 to 8 April to June, September to mid-December Luxury France Honeymoon, 14 days, €9,999
The Alps Swiss panoramic trains, Zermatt, Lake Annecy 7 to 10 June to September, or December to March for snow Legendary Swiss Trains, 7 days, €2,199
The Riviera Nice, Èze, Saint-Tropez 6 to 8 May, June and September French Riviera in 7 Days, €1,899
Wine country Burgundy, the Beaujolais, Cognac, Bordeaux 5 to 7 April to June, September to November Cognac Getaway, 6 days, €1,999

Most couples combine two of these styles: Paris and the Riviera, the Swiss Alps and a lake, a wine region and a city.

Romantic cities: Paris again, but differently

If you first came to Paris years ago, change the frame. Stay in a different neighborhood (the Left Bank if you stayed near the Opéra, the Marais if you stayed in Saint-Germain), see the city from the Seine at night, and keep one evening for a dinner you will talk about.

  • Le Jules Verne, 125 meters up the Eiffel Tower, held two Michelin stars in 2026 under chef Frédéric Anton. Tables go fast; we book as soon as your dates are firm.
  • The Mur des je t'aime in Montmartre, a wall in the small Square Jehan-Rictus where "I love you" is written 311 times in more than 250 languages, was restored for its 25th anniversary. It is the photo our couples ask for.
  • Leave the padlock at home. Paris removed the love locks from the Pont des Arts in 2015, after part of the railing collapsed under their weight, and replaced the grilles with glass panels.
  • Champagne is 45 minutes away by TGV to Reims. A cellar visit and a tasting make an easy day out, and if a house still has a vintage from your wedding year, we ask whether you can taste or buy it.

Our Luxury France Honeymoon, 14 days in 5-star hotels from €9,999 (about $11,500) per person, is the template we adapt most often for milestone anniversaries: a Seine cruise, Place Vendôme and a photo shoot in Paris, the Grands Crus of Burgundy, a helicopter flight over Mont Blanc, the Lavaux vineyards and Provence, with a private guide every day.

The Alps: trains, lakes and a room facing the mountain

  • The Glacier Express in Excellence Class. In 2026 the supplement is CHF 590 (about $740) per person on top of a first-class ticket, for a guaranteed window seat, a multi-course meal with wines and a dedicated host over eight hours. First class has the same panoramic windows, so Excellence is worth it for couples who enjoy a long lunch together.
  • A room facing the Matterhorn. In Zermatt, the view from the room matters more than the size of the bathroom. The Riffelalp Resort 2222 m, a five-star hotel reached by the Gornergrat railway in about 20 minutes, is one example of the top end.
  • Lake Annecy. For a quieter Alpine stay, Talloires on the east shore, a private boat for the morning and dinner by the water. Our Annecy travel guide explains where to stay.

Our Legendary Swiss Trains trip, 7 days from €2,199 (about $2,500) per person, rides the GoldenPass, the Gornergrat, the Glacier Express and the Bernina Express with 4-star hotels beside each station. For an anniversary, we often swap one or two nights for a 5-star hotel with the view.

The Riviera: the sea, Èze and a day on the water

Ask for a room facing the sea: on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice or on the bay in Saint-Tropez, it is the upgrade that matters most. Above the coast, the medieval village of Èze is home to the Château de la Chèvre d'Or, a Relais & Châteaux hotel whose restaurant holds two Michelin stars, a good example of where couples book their anniversary dinner above the Mediterranean.

Our French Riviera in 7 Days, from €1,899 (about $2,200) per person, starts with a private dinner on arrival, then a yacht day to Porquerolles, the gardens of Cap Ferrat and Èze, Monaco at night and a workshop in Grasse where you create your own perfume, which makes a natural anniversary gift. A driver is with you throughout. Go in May, June or September; July and August are hot and crowded.

Wine country: Burgundy, the Beaujolais and Cognac

  • Burgundy: private tastings in the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits, and a hot-air balloon flight over the vines in season.
  • The Beaujolais: our home region, quieter than Burgundy, with golden-stone villages and family estates. Our guide to the Beaujolais wine region covers the crus and the villages.
  • Cognac: our Cognac Getaway, 6 days from €1,999 (about $2,300) per person, spends five nights in one hotel (4-star, or the 5-star Chais Monnet) with a masterclass, a Bordeaux blending workshop and a visit to the Hennessy cooperage.
  • A bottle from your wedding year: we can look for one through estates and wine merchants. For older years it is not always possible, and we tell you before you count on it.

Surprises we arrange, and the ones we talk you out of

What we arrange:

  • Telling every hotel it is your anniversary. Upgrades are at the hotel's discretion: we ask every time, and we never promise one.
  • A table with a view, booked weeks or months ahead.
  • A photographer for an hour, on the first morning in Paris, by the lake or in the vines.
  • Flowers, a cake or a bottle in the room, and a handwritten card if you give us the words.
  • A vow renewal. In France, renewing your vows has no legal value: it is a symbolic ceremony, usually led by a celebrant, and some town halls agree to host one as a courtesy. We find the setting (a vineyard terrace, a lakeside garden, a chapel) and the celebrant.
  • A flight: a helicopter over Mont Blanc, or a balloon over the vineyards.

What we talk you out of:

  • a surprise that means a 5 a.m. alarm, unless it is the balloon;
  • a surprise destination when one of you has to pack for the mountains and the other for the beach;
  • five cities in ten days to "make it special";
  • a tasting menu every night: one great dinner per stop, and bistros in between.

Pacing: how we slow an anniversary trip down

  • Three nights per stop, minimum, and one day in each with nothing booked.
  • No tour before 9:30 a.m., except sunrise experiences you chose.
  • First-class trains and private transfers, so you never carry luggage through a station.
  • A driver for wine days, so you both taste.

For couples where one partner has reduced mobility, we choose flat bases (the Annecy lakeside, the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, Lyon's Presqu'île), use the wheelchair spaces on TGV trains and in the first-class section of the Glacier Express (booked at least 24 hours ahead), and check room access ourselves before booking. Perched villages like Èze are steep and cobbled, so we plan the dinner, not the walk.

What an anniversary trip to Europe costs in 2026

Trip Days From, per person
French Riviera in 7 Days 7 €1,899 (about $2,200)
Switzerland in 7 Days: Lucerne, Jungfrau, Zermatt and Lavaux 7 €1,999 (about $2,300)
Cognac Getaway 6 €1,999 (about $2,300)
Legendary Swiss Trains 7 €2,199 (about $2,500)
Luxury France Honeymoon 14 €9,999 (about $11,500)

These "from" prices move with your dates, hotels and the extras you choose. The extras couples add most for a milestone are a 5-star room with the view, Glacier Express Excellence Class (CHF 590 per person) and one great dinner. Our Europe trip cost calculator gives a first estimate for your own route.

Choosing by the date of your anniversary

  • December to March: snow in Zermatt and the Alps, Christmas markets in December, and a mild, quiet Riviera.
  • April to June: Paris in spring, the Riviera before the crowds, green vineyards in Burgundy and the Beaujolais.
  • July and August: the Alps and the lakes at their best; Paris and the Riviera are hot and busy.
  • September to November: the harvest, Champagne and Burgundy in autumn, and Beaujolais Nouveau on November 19, 2026.

If your date falls on a busy weekend, celebrate a few days either side: the dinner matters more than the exact day.

Tell a travel designer your date, your milestone and what you love doing together, and we will design your anniversary trip around that one moment.

Frequently asked questions

Where should we go in Europe for our 25th anniversary?

Go back to what you loved, but change the frame. Couples who honeymooned in Paris often return for a few nights and then add something new: the Swiss Alps by panoramic train, the French Riviera or a wine region such as Burgundy. Two or three bases over 10 to 14 days, with one exceptional dinner or view, is the shape we use most.

How many days should an anniversary trip to Europe be?

Ten to fourteen days is ideal for two or three bases with three nights each and one free day per stop. A week works for one region, such as the Riviera or Switzerland by train. Under a week, we suggest one base only, with day trips, so that the time goes to the celebration rather than to packing and train stations.

Can we renew our vows in France?

Yes, as a symbolic ceremony. A vow renewal has no legal value in France and does not change your marriage, so there is no paperwork. Most couples choose a celebrant and a setting such as a vineyard terrace, a lakeside garden or a chapel, and some town halls agree to host a ceremony as a courtesy. We organize the setting, the celebrant and the dinner afterward.

How do you surprise your partner on an anniversary trip?

Keep the surprise to one moment rather than the whole trip. A table with a view, flowers or a bottle in the room, a photographer for an hour or a perfume created in Grasse work well. Tell your partner the destination and the weather, so they can pack. We let every hotel know it is your anniversary, without promising an upgrade.
