The bus is cheaper but slower, a private driver is the most comfortable, and the helicopter from Nice airport takes seven minutes. For an arrival from the airport with luggage, the driver or the helicopter. The bus is good value but slow in season, when the coast road fills. ## The train route, step by step 1. **Start at Nice-Ville** on Avenue Thiers, or at Nice-Riquier if you are staying near the port. Buy your ticket on the SNCF Connect app or at the machines before boarding. 2. **Board a TER heading east,** toward Menton or Ventimiglia. Most trains on this line stop at Monaco; check the board. 3. **Ride along the coast.** The train calls at Villefranche-sur-Mer, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Èze and Cap-d'Ail, in and out of short tunnels with the sea below. 4. **Arrive at Monaco-Monte-Carlo.** The station is built into the rock, with long walkways, escalators and lifts to several exits. Check which exit is closest to the Casino, the Port Hercule or Monaco-Ville before you leave the platform. ## Where to sit Sit on the **right-hand side** in the direction of travel. The line hugs the shore, and the views over the bay of Villefranche and the Cap Ferrat peninsula are all on that side. Coming back to Nice, switch to the left. ## The three corniches by car A private driver gives you a choice of three roads, each about the same distance: - **The Basse Corniche,** along the sea through Villefranche-sur-Mer, Beaulieu and Cap-d'Ail. The slowest in summer traffic but the closest to the water. - **The Moyenne Corniche,** halfway up the cliffs, past the hilltop village of Èze. Our favorite for a first trip. - **The Grande Corniche,** high above the coast through La Turbie, with its Roman monument, the Trophée d'Auguste, and the widest views over Monaco. We often go one way and return the other, with a stop in Èze, which is one of our standard [day trips from Nice](https://www.mobeeinternational.com/articles/day-trips-from-nice). ## Tickets and timing tips - **Train tickets:** buy on SNCF Connect or at the station machines; fares are fixed and do not need advance booking. - **Bus line 600:** tap a contactless card or phone on the validator on board, or buy through the Zou app. Lines 607 and 608 were merged into line 600 in 2024, so older guides are out of date. - **Busy dates:** the Monaco Grand Prix weekend in late May or early June, the Monaco Yacht Show in September, and summer afternoons. Trains back to Nice after 5 p.m. can be standing room only. - **Monaco uses the euro,** and you cross no border control. ## Stops worth making on the way - **Villefranche-sur-Mer:** a deep harbor and a pastel old town, two stops from Nice. - **Beaulieu-sur-Mer:** the Villa Kérylos, a reconstructed Greek villa, and the walk to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild gardens. - **Èze:** from Èze-sur-Mer station, the steep Nietzsche Path climbs to the medieval village in an hour or more; most travelers prefer to go up by car and walk down. - **Cap-d'Ail:** a coastal footpath that leads to the edge of Monaco. ## Accessibility between Nice and Monaco Monaco is one of the easiest places on the Riviera for limited mobility: the principality runs free public lifts and escalators between its levels, and its city buses are low-floor. Monaco-Monte-Carlo station has lifts, but the walkways are long, so allow time. Regional trains vary in how level the boarding is, so book SNCF station assistance at least 24 hours ahead for Nice-Ville. On Grand Prix weekend, when roads close, we switch to the train or a helicopter seat and plan the walking route from the station. For most visitors, the TER train: 22 to 24 minutes from Nice-Ville to Monaco-Monte-Carlo, frequent departures and about €6 to €7 one way in 2026. If you want views and stops in Èze or La Turbie, a private driver along the corniches is better. From the airport with luggage, a driver or the seven-minute helicopter. ### How much is the bus from Nice to Monaco? Line 600, run by the regional Zou network, costs €2.10 when you tap a contactless bank card or phone on the validator, or €2.50 in cash to the driver in 2026. Private flights for a group cost more, from roughly €700 per flight. ### Can you walk from Nice to Monaco? Not the whole way in comfort: it is about 20 kilometers on roads without continuous footpaths.
